Cuba
My husband Chuck traveled to Cuba several times. As a percussionist and an artist, he loved it. I went along twice, on his first and his last trips. The first one in 2000 was a whirlwind of sightseeing and participation in the Jazz Festival. The last was spent with friends we'd made and observing how the country experienced the death of Fidel Castro, which occurred while we were there.
Although I loved the people and the music, I was less enamored with Cuba than Chuck. I wrote a scathing entry in my journal on the airplane home... angry with both our governments and the impact of their politics and policies on the people. You can read an excerpt from it here. Chuck and I also wrote an article for Seattle's Earshot Jazz newsletter describing our trip and the Jazz Festival. A scanned version of it can be found here.
